Now Quoting: My Sister’s Keeper

Hi guys! I’ve decided to start doing a bi-weekly feature where I share some of my favorite quotes from books I’ve read. Basically, the purpose of this feature is to recommend a fantastic novel that I haven’t reviewed yet, and share some awesome quotes in the process! Because everyone loves quotes, don’t they? 🙂

Anyway, this post will be highlighting some of my favorite quotes from a book that I read and loved recently: My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. These quotes are spoiler-free, so please do stick around!

10917.jpgAnna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate — a life and a role that she has never challenged… until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister—and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

A provocative novel that raises some important ethical issues,My Sister’s Keeper is the story of one family’s struggle for survival at all human costs and a stunning parable for all time. description

“If you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it’s not because they enjoy solitude. It’s because they tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them.”

“Until this moment, I had not realized that someone could break your heart twice, along the very same fault lines.”

“I didn’t want to see her because it would make me feel better. I came because without her, it’s hard to remember who I am.”

“You don’t love someone because they’re perfect, you love them in spite of the fact they’re not.”

“There are some things we do because we convince ourselves it would be better for everyone involved. We tell ourselves that it’s the right thing to do, the altruistic thing to do. It’s far easier than telling ourselves the truth.”

“Shooting stars are not stars at all. They re just rocks that enter the atmosphere and catch fire under friction. What we wish on when we see one is only a trail of debris.”

“Extraordinary things are always hiding in places people never think to look.”

Have you read My Sister’s Keeper yet? If so, what did you think about it? What quotes would you add to this list? What books have you found particularly quotable lately? I’d love to hear your thoughts! 🙂
