Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon! | April 2016

PczMoPoN.jpg

I know, I know: I’m LATE. By no less than….8 hours? Ish? I just finished a swim meet about an hour ago, so I’m hungry and exhausted and SO PUMPED UP FOR THE READ-A-THON! (Ish….?)

Introduction Meme

Q: What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

A: I’m reading from a lovely town in  southern California! (Please don’t stalk me.)

Q: Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

A: Ugh, I knew this question was coming! I’ve been looking forward to reading all the books in my stack for weeks, so that’s super tough to answer. I guess Dreamology by Lucy Keating and How To Love by Katie Cotugno would be my current top picks.

Q: Which snack are you most looking forward to?

A: EVERYTHING. (Don’t judge me; I’m a hungry swimmer.)

image1.JPG

Q: Tell us a little something about yourself!

A: Okay, I kind of suck at this kind of question….I guess I just finished a super tiring swim meet earlier today? I did the 800 free, 200 free, 200 back, and 200 breast, if by any chance you’re a swimmer and happen to have any idea about what these events are. And if you’re not a swimmer: just know that they’re really, really hard.

And I also kind of just realized that I already stated that earlier in this post. Oops.

Q: If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

A: yes, I did this read-a-thon last October. I guess one thing I’ll try to change is not putting so much pressure on myself to finish a certain number of books, you know? I mean, I have goals, but they’re pretty low-key.

UPDATE: 3:30pm

Hi guys! I’m back with my first mini-challenge – the “Share a Quote” Challenge! This challenge is hosted by Nea @ My Life Is A Fairytale That Will Never End. Basically, the point is that you share a quote from your current read or a book you read earlier in the read-a-thon. Pretty simple, right?

The quote I chose to share with you guys is:

“I don’t believe in forgiveness. I think if you hurt someone, it becomes part of you both. Each of you just has to live with it and the person you hurt gets to decide if they want to give you the chance to do it again. If they do and you’re a good person, you won’t make the same mistakes. Just whole new ones.”

This quote is from All The Rage by Courtney Summers, which I’m currently about 75% of the way through and I’m loving it.

UPDATE: 5:00pm

Aaaaaand I’m back for another update, guys! This time it’s the Mid-Event Survey.

The Survey

Q: What are you reading right now?

A: Nothing, at the moment! I just finished All The Rage by Courtney Summers and now I’m trying to figure out what I should read next. I’m leaning towards either Dreamology or How To Love.

Q: How many books have you read so far?

A: One! It was All The Rage by Courtney Summers, which I absolutely adored. It’s such an honest, important book that I think everyone should read and I’m so glad I read it. My second 5-star read of 2016! Review to come.

Q: What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

A: I’m hoping to finish or at least get a decent chunk out of another book, but once again, I’m having trouble deciding between Dreamology and How To Love. Opinions regarding these two books would be much appreciated!

Q: Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

A: Nope, fortunately. My family knows not to bug a tired, grumpy swimmer during a read-a-thon.

Q: What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

A: Um….no surprises I can think of yet. Sorry, I’m boring.

UPDATE: 9:30pm

Hi guys! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve successfully finished my goal of reading for 8 hours straight during this read-a-thon! I managed to finish two amazing books during those 8 hours – I literally finished my second one right at 9:00pm! If you guys are participating in the read-a-thon, I hope you’re having a great time! If not, I hope you’re having an amazing weekend nonetheless.

Anyway, the two novels I managed to read were All The Rage by Courtney Summers (5 stars!!!) and Dreamology by Lucy Keating (4 stars!!!). Hopefully, I will be posting reviews for both of these in the near future!

Okay, I’m about to fall asleep so I’m just going to wrap this up right now. I’ll be doing some sort of event wrap-up tomorrow, so stay tuned for that!

IMPORTANT NOTE: I will be updating this post throughout the entire read-a-thon, so be sure to check back later to see what I’m up to! I hope you guys are having a lovely day! 🙂

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon Is FINALLY Here! (This Weekend, That Is…)

x35g-e1t.jpg

Hi guys! I hope you’re all having a lovely day. ❤

The Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon is an event that I’ve really been looking forward to ever since participating in it last October and loving it. If you’re not familiar with this read-a-thon, it’s basically a 24-hour period in which you try to read as many books as you can. Participants update their reading progress on their blog, Instagram, Goodreads, or pretty much any other kind of social media. It’s a really fun experience because a) it’s the perfect excuse to spend an entire day reading, and b) people from all over the world are also participating in the read-a-thon and it’s really cool to be able to interact with them and cheer them on. There’s also writing prompts/challenges and prizes given out at every hour! If you’re interested in signing up, check out the website here.

My Goals!

  • When I did this read-a-thon last year, I only managed to get 8 hours in because I had a swim meet that morning. Unfortunately, I’m also having a swim meet this weekend, so I’m aiming for around 8 hours again.
  • Last year I managed to read 2 books within the 8-hour period, but they were both 500+ paged novels. (I know, what on earth was I thinking?) Anyway, this year I’m going to aim for 2 smaller-sized books to give myself a little leeway and make sure I don’t feel too pressurized.

Book Haul!

I went on a book buying ban 3 months ago, so this was my first purchase since, like….December? And it was with a gift card, so does that count? My real motivation for going on my book ban was that I wanted to save up to buy ALL THE BOOKS at Yallwest (WHICH IS HAPPENING IN LIKE A WEEK YAYAYAYAY), and I have to say that I’m pretty proud of myself for sticking to it for such a long time! (Sometimes it’s kind of sad how excited I get over the most ridiculous things…. #bookwormproblems)

Anyway, I received these beauties in the mail today, and I’m absolutely ECSTATIC to read all of them!

ALL THE RAGE by Courtney Summers | DREAMOLOGY by Lucy Keating | THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern | FORBIDDEN by Tabitha Suzuma | HOW TO LOVE by Katie Cotugno

Are you participating in the read-a-thon this weekend? What are you planning to read? Have you read any of the books I mentioned in my book haul, and if so, what did you think? I’d love to hear from you in the comments! 🙂

Mid-Event Survey

Hi guys! I’m back with another update – this time the mid-event survey! (We’re just gonna ignore the fact that I started the read-a-thon only 3 1/2 hours ago, kay?)

My Read-a-Thon Stats So Far:

Pages read: 245

Books completed: Like…..80% of one?

Currently reading: Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour.

Mid-Event Survey:

1. What are you reading right now? (See above)
2. How many books have you read so far? (See above)
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness!
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? HAHAHAHA. Ha. Only one tiny and insignificant one. AKA, my 5 hour-long swim meet that took place way too early this morning. But don’t worry, people. I’ve recovered. And I haven’t even had a nap yet!
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? Probably the huge amount of support everyone has shown me already, despite my time constraints and the fact that I’ve barely read at all yet. Thanks so much, everyone who reads/follows me/comments on or likes my posts – it means the world to me. ❤

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon and Book Haul!

x35G-e1T

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having an amazing week! ❤

Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-thon is an event I’ve been waiting for for a long time – and it’s my first ever read-a-thon! I’ve been wanting to do one for a long time, but as a new blogger, I never really found out about them before they had already started. XD

If you haven’t participated before and are wondering what it’s all about, check out the official website. Basically, the goal of the read-a-thon is for you to spend 24 hours reading, while you update your progress on Goodreads, your blog, or any other kind of social media. You can also chat with other people doing the read-a-thon, participate in challenges, and earn prizes!

My Goals!

My goal is 8 hours of reading because I’ll be at a swim meet that morning so I don’t have time to participate in the full 24 hours. Even 10 hours is probably pushing it, because I’m going to be so tired after my meet that I could quite possibly fall asleep after 30 minutes. But it’s the thought that counts, right? 😉

Anyway, the read-a-thon is taking place this Saturday, and I’m super excited! I’ll be posting updates on this blog every couple hours or so (unless I fall asleep, of course XD).

I don’t really have any goals in terms of how many books I’m going to read because I’ve never participated in a read-a-thon before and don’t have much experience with that kind of stuff. However, I just had a pretty decent-sized library and bookstore haul, so I have a lot of possibilities for books I could read. I’ve heard that it’s best to pick out short-ish and really fast-paced books in order to keep yourself interested and occupied the whole time.

Book Haul!
